I meant to post this a couple weeks back. Keanu Reeves has signed on to play Klaatu in a remake of the Day the Earth Stood Still. Klaatu? Really? I think Reeves' acting skills make him the perfect choice to play Gort.
Personally, I think it's a travesty that such a classic is being remade. Leave it alone.

Anything over 50 years old is fair game for a remake... and remember that the Bogart Maltese Falcon was a remake, and only 10 years after the previous version.
Personally I am looking forward to how Keanu handles it. Klaatu was stiff, and projected an air of being alien in the original - Keanu should be able to do that.
KR has a limited range, but in that range he is great, and I think that this could fall under that.
What worries me is the comment about there being lots of Special Effects. That could be bad. :)
I'm trying to be hopeful and positive here. :)
All hope is not lost with KR. I enjoyed him in Bill and Ted's, The Matrix, and Constantine. You're right in that Klaatu's lack of expressiveness might play to Keanu's acting strengths.
The 'Special Effects' issue LM brings up is a bigger concern to me than Keanu's acting. I'm afraid the Hollywood 'mentailty' will lead to this being made into a summer blockbuster with lots of explosions and little of the original story remaining.
Mike-
That is exactly my fear when I heard that line.
As for KR - I'm actually a fan - besides the stuff the Dilliwag mentioned I really enjoyed Speed, The Replacements*, Chain Reaction, Johnny Mnemonic. His performance in Much Ado even grew on me. :)
* Possibly my favorite sports comedy of all time.
True, his performance in Much Ado About Nothing was pretty good, even considering that Brannaugh, Denzel, Emma, Brian, Keaton, and the like were in the movie with him. He held his own and did a pretty good job with the character.
